This week I bought my boyfriend a cocktail shaker and this means that there has been a lot of experimenting happening in our house this week!
This passion fruit martini is a little sweet, a little strong and a little tangy. It reminded me of Edwardian women sipping a stiff drink in a moment of need and that took me to A Room with a View. This novel, set on the Italian riviera, explores the role of women in society and the choices they are allowed to make. I read it when preparing my university application 10 years ago (was it really that long?) and I would highly recommend it, especially as a summer read. The martini certainly tastes of summer, but maybe the kind of summer that is a little too hot and a little too trying.
To have a go at making the martini yourself, put 20ml passion fruit syrup (I used the Monin one), 40ml vodka and 20ml lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice. Shake it up until the cold of the ice reaches the outside of the shaker and then pour it into a martini glass (or a Babycham one if you collect them like me).
If you don't have a cocktail shaker, use a kilner jar or a bottle (if you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen this in action).
