I was asked by @bookishpursuit on Instagram to create a pairing for Tender is the Night such a long time ago and I really appreciate their patience whilst I put this together. It took me a while because Tender is the Night is a book with a special place in my heart and I was really searching for the right drink to pair it with.
I thought about creating a cocktail, or recommending some fabulous champagne, which is almost certainly what Fitzgerald would have wanted.
While I had been searching for the drink in the depths of my mind, considering what might be just right, the drink came to me.
Late into a long day of working at a hotel in New York, my boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves to a glass of wine.
There it was.
Domaine Serge Laloue Sancerre 2016.
A round mouth feel, smooth drinking with peaches, citrus and limestone. This wine certainly wouldn't intrude while you were reading. It would heal the most broken of hearts, which you might need if you're reading Tender is the Night.
Go follow @bookishpursuit and find me @toastingbooks - let me know if you tried the pairing.
